PostHeaderIcon Six Popular Social Networking Sites

Social networking is now part of our culture. In fact, there are so many to choose from and those who decide to become a member of one are more likely to become a member of another. Just to give you an idea of what is around, here are six of some of the most popular social networking sites.

1. The first is called Facebook. As of July last year, it has the largest number of registered users among college focused sites with more than 34 million members worldwide. Although it is the seventh most visited site in the US, it ranks number one for photos. What makes this social networking site so special is that it generates revenues through advertising which according to some is a little over $1.5 million a week.

2. Next is MySpace which was founded in 2003. According to a study, this social networking site is the world’s sixth most popular English language website and the third most popular in the US. Similar to Facebook, members are able to post pictures, videos, blogs and music.

3. The third is YouTube which unlike the other two only focuses on the uploading, viewing and sharing of video clips. Established in 2005, members are able to upload videos for free and save those which they like in their account. If you want to save this in your computer, there are software programs you can use. The nice thing about this social networking site is that even unregistered users are also able to watch videos.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Social Networking. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

4. The fourth site is Second Life which is an Internet based virtual world. What makes this so different from the other three is the fact that you are able to create a character and then interact with other members. By interacting with other members, you are able to participate in individual and group activities, create and trade items and services with one another again in a virtual setting.

To date, this social networking site has 8.9 million registered residents with a majority of them that happen to be inactive and some of them are owned by one person.

5. For business networking, one of the most popular ones around is Linkedin which has 12.5 million members. Established in 2003, this social networking site is designed to give registered users a way to maintain contact with people they know so those within the connection can use it to find business opportunities, find jobs and new contacts as well as review or recruit potential candidates.

6. One of the oldest social networking sites around is Classmates which has over 40 million members. Established in 1995, it is a great way to connect with old friends back from high school or college. After so many years, you and your friends have changed and now have successful careers which you can use should you decide to go into business together.

These are just a few of the hundreds of social networking sites around. What makes each of these so popular is the fact that members are able to use it for free and when used for business, they don’t have to pay for advertising. That is unless of course you will be utilizing pop up ads and banners. But the simplest way is to post links to your webpage so members who may need your products or services will get in touch with you or recommend you to someone who needs it.

PostHeaderIcon Social Networking and Teens

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Social Networking? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Social Networking.

Social networking sites are very popular among teens because this is gives them a sense of belonging. While many say that this is part of growing up, there are risks involved, which is why they should be cautions.

Since they are not kids anymore, they more or less know which information of themselves should be made public. It is okay to talk about their hobbies, their favorite band or sport but not post their phone number or address since someone might call them up or visit them at home.

They should only add friends that they know in real life like their classmates, teachers and family members.

So no one outside their friends will be able to read anything that they posted, it is best that this is set to private. Doing so will prevent people who are not in the friend’s list from viewing their blogs or photos.

Before you post it, make sure that this is tasteful and not sexually provocative. You can make alterations using some programs to remove any identifying information.

They also should not post any plans like where they will be on the weekend to avoid meeting someone who could be a potential threat.

When they open an account, they should use a screen name and not their real name. It is also advisable not to mention their real age or gender as some sites require it.

The best time to learn about Social Networking is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Social Networking experience while it’s still free.

The only way your teen can log into their account is to type in their username or email address and password. The password must never be shared to anyone even their friends.

Should they encounter any harassment or negative comments on their profile, it must be ignored and reported to the administrator.

The time may come that someone they meet online will want to meet them in person. It is probably okay to do so after knowing this person for some time and not after chatting with them only once.

When they do decide to meet, they should still exercise caution by telling someone where they are going and who they are meeting. They could even bring a friend along so they will feel safe. Should things go well without any incident, then there won’t be any problems. But should the uneventful take place, they should be report this to the police and to the administrator so the one responsible for this will be punished.

While some teens may think that they are not given any privacy, parents who decide to put the computer in an open area like the kitchen or family room are actually doing them a favor. This will let the parents know what sites they visit, what content they have downloaded and monitor their surfing habits.

When the teen is logged into a social networking site or simply hanging out with friends, it is important that they just be themselves. This means not being bullied or pressured to do something they don’t want to do or be something they aren’t which can only be achieved of course by knowing their limits.

They should also stop chatting with someone who asks about their physical features or what is their attitude toward sex because the individual who is asking just wants to have sex which is a classic case of manipulation and not true friendship.

PostHeaderIcon Christian Social Networking Sites are the Better Influences for Kids

When you’re away from the computer and the kids take over, do you know what sites they go to in the Internet? For sure, one or two of these sites include MySpace, Friendster, or Facebook. People of all ages gather to these sites for so many reasons and so many purposes. These kids are exposed to so many things that could influence them. If you are a parent, you’d want the better influence so try introducing the kids to Christian social networking sites, so you can have some peace of mind.

What is social networking and how does it work?

If we’re speaking about online social networking, we are referring to these sites that host a venue or a website where a person can create his own page and get connected with others in a network. The social networking site allows the user to upload photos and videos. There is also a space for blogging so users can speak their mind about anything.

Anything you put in your profile or account can be tracked and seen by the people who are linked to you as a contact. You can also see their profile and the many activities they are doing online or off.

The concept of social networking online became a hit because people are naturally sociable. The best thing about the Internet is people can get connected with their relatives, buddies, long lost friends, colleagues, or classmates regardless of time zones and geographical borders. This virtual meeting place makes it possible to stay in touch with people who matter.

The other appeal of a social networking site is that it allows you to meet other people ? strangers, friend of your friend, distant relative, or maybe a schoolmate you never got to talk to before. Online you get the chance to know them more as you see all the things he does through photos or blogs. People end up being good friends, and others even become lovers.

How are these social networking sites different from the Christian sites?

Because so many people are registered to these popular social networking sites, you can never really tell whom you are getting networked with. The Internet has grown, with it sprung a new breed of criminal minds and people with malicious intents on others. These are the kind of people we all would like to block away.

Sites that are more centered on religion are better options for us all. While there are so many other religions, Christianity is the largest religion in the world ? thus, there are more sites targeted to Christians. Here are some reasons why these God-centered sites are better:

The best time to learn about Social Networking is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Social Networking experience while it’s still free.

* They are smaller in size compared to the most popular ones and therefore more specific on the profile of the users.

* Contents are tailored to the people’s sensitivity and needs

* Easier to navigate than the huge social networks

* No unpleasant topics about religion

* Interfaces are almost the same as the popular sites like MySpace and Facebook ? you’d think you’re in those sites!

* Safer and more youth-oriented

* Fellowship with others with the same religious beliefs

* Increase in faith as there are so many information shared about religion and values

Christian social networking sites are becoming popular and that is something every parent or guardian should be happy about. It may not be possible to watch over the kids 24 hours a day, but at least we know their spending some of their time online getting the better influences.

Of course, it’s impossible to put everything about Social Networking into just one article. But you can’t deny that you’ve just added to your understanding about Social Networking, and that’s time well spent.

PostHeaderIcon Social Networking Sites as the Cyberfriends Central Station

When was the last time you heard from your high school buddies? Are you one of those people who either hate or love high school reunions? Do you want to know what’s going on with your elementary school friends? What ever happened to the guy in high school that was voted most likely to succeed? Do you want to reconnect with old friends that you haven’t seen in years? Are these the questions that pop in your head when you look at your old yearbook? Or you just want to meet new people and have a little more spunk in your boring life? If your answer is yes to all of the questions then social networking websites are for you.

But what is social networking and aren’t you too old for this? To understand the concept of social networking we first have to know the fundamentals of it. First of all, social networking is a way of rekindling ties lost due to the stress of time, career, location and communication (or the lack of it). In short it’s like a reunion party 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days in a year.

Social networks were originally meant to keep a certain group of people sharing the same interests together. It is achieved by members of a network introducing new people into the group, it can be done personally but nowadays online social networking is more popular. And because the internet is filled to the brim with social networking websites it didn’t take long before people started using sites like these for meeting new people, starting personal relationships and meeting business relationships as well.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

People who are engaged in social networking through the internet have varied communities of hobby enthusiasts, social groups, colleagues, practitioners of the same field, colleges and schools and even communities and cities. On the internet there are social networking sites that only allow access to people who share the same interest, there are also free for all sites that allow access to people who have diverse backgrounds and interests. In general, social networking sites are like hubs where people hang out to meet other people.

Some social networking sites also include people searches based on schools, countries, religion, preference and interests. In today’s society social networking sites allow people to maintain communication with friends and family members that are far away from each or have little time to go out and meet people.

An advantage of joining a social networking group is the ability to tell people about your status and progression. Sites like these also allow people to express their thoughts on certain topics and issues that they encounter on a daily basis. Social networking sites also allow people to showcase other talents that they have like groups interested in photography. Others also use social networking sites to gain access to people who could ultimately help them out in the future. It’s also a place where you have freedom to express your opinions on people, events and other topics that you have special interest in without having any fear of people judging you.

There are dozens of social networking sites for you to choose from on the Internet that cater to different kinds of people’ interests like MySpace, Orkut, Tagged, Multiply, Friendster, Yahoo space, MSN Space etc.

Now you can be a confident expert on Social Networking. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Social Networking.

PostHeaderIcon Social Networking Sites and Parenting

So what is Social Networking really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about Social Networking–info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

There are hundreds of social networking sites and chances are your kids are members of a few of them. As a parent, you should help your kids navigate through this site and others so they don’t fall victim to pedophiles and other threats.

This is why parents should teach the kids about what information should remain private. If they fail to do so, they may accidentally tell someone exactly where you live, what is your phone number, you social security number and your current financial status.

Since they are required to give a screen name, tell them not to use their real name but rather something else which does not give them away.

The social networking site they are a member of surely has privacy settings. As a parent, help your kid activate it or teach them how to use it because there is a reason why web developers decided to install it.

You should also teach your kids to use their better judgment when they decide to put information about themselves in their profiles. They must be comfortable with whatever they put because this will be viewed by their classmates, teachers, college admission officers and even employers.

With today’s technology, you don’t need a laptop or a desktop to log into a social networking site. You can also do this by simply using your cell phone. To limit how much time that your kid is spending on the web, buy them a phone that does not have this function. After all, the cell phone is used for SMS and calling.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Social Networking, keep reading.

Believe it or not, bullying has moved from the school into cyberspace and there are many ways of doing it. Some examples of this are the spreading of rumors online to getting threatening messages in your inbox or cell phone. Some kids have taken their own lives because of it so if you don’t want this to happen to your child, take steps so you can monitor them.

The best way is to have open communication with them. Should they bring this matter up to you, tell them to delete the account in this social networking site and just open a new one elsewhere. This will make them more careful in accepting people who want to be their friends.

Aside from cyber bullying, parents should also talk to their kids about sex. It is better that they hear this from you rather from some stranger who is more likely a sexual predator.

If they feel threatened by someone and don’t know what to do, help them report it to the police and the social networking site so this person can be banned.

An effective way of keeping tabs on your kid’s is to search for their name through blog sites and search engines. If there is nothing posted, then they are safe.

Keeping your kid’s safe is one of the things that we have to do as parents. We may not be with them 24/7 but there are ways by which we can make sure that they are safe until the time comes that they can fend themselves.

On the part of the social networking site, they have privacy policies in place. You just have to understand the features and privacy controls it in order to use it.

As your knowledge about Social Networking continues to grow, you will begin to see how Social Networking fits into the overall scheme of things. Knowing how something relates to the rest of the world is important too.

PostHeaderIcon What Parents Need to Know About Social Networking?

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Social Networking? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Social Networking.

In just a short span of time the internet has been the staple for all the needs that people have in their daily lives. In recent years the library has been losing to Google and Yahoo search as the primary source of all kinds of questions that people have about school, how to cook, how to make bombs and what sex is. Sad to say that with influx of technology the old ways of learning has dwindled in terms of accessibility and necessity.

One of the other major changes in the recent years is how kids of this generation socialize and make friends. Before the internet people would have to spend time knowing the person, hanging out with them and accepting people as friends, nowadays social networking websites like MySpace and Facebook have literally made the world smaller for kids.

It was just a dream of country leaders before to have a global village that would gather together people from all walks of life without boundaries and without limitations. That dream became a reality because of the internet. Nowadays a person in China can easily make friends with a person from Oklahoma just by clicking ?add to friends’. That easy and both of them has access to the kinds of hobbies that you have, the books that you read, movies that made them cry, relationships that they’ve had and stores they shop in, it’s a bit scary in a way but why are people so into the social networking craze?

The generations of kids that we have are officially born in the Information Age where almost everything is just a URL away; making friends, discussions, relationships and other kinds of socialization are readily available. But when you think about the kind of information that is available to them it’s frightening to think of what kind of effect tolls these kids.

The need to protect

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

Parents should be vigilant enough to know how to protect our children from the monsters that hide under their cyberspace beds. There are real threats and dangers that lurk in the pages of the social networking websites and it poses real harm to children if parents are not wise enough to know what they are.

What are these dangers? When we talk about social networking websites, we’re looking at a jungle of people trying to take advantage of children in different kinds of ways. Here are the most common of them.

- Sex offenders. The most common of the predators lurking in social networking websites, these people prey on kids that fall under the pretense that these people just want to be friends. These people fool children in to meeting them in a certain place and when they meet they say that they were sent by the ?friend’ to pick them up. Cases like these are common not only in the US but in other countries as well.

- Information hustlers. These are people who take advantage of the fact that your kids can give them information like credit card, social security, addresses and other information that they can sell of to other people.

- Sharks and thieves. These kinds of criminals?through social networking?take advantage of the fact that they can easily get an idea of how your house’s layout just by asking for photos from your children that were taken inside the house.

Now you can be a confident expert on Social Networking. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Social Networking.

PostHeaderIcon Social Networking Can Help Get Your Message Across

The following article presents the very latest information on Social Networking. If you have a particular interest in Social Networking, then this informative article is required reading.

The success of social networking marks a dynamic shift in how we use the Internet. This is based on the mentality that people who share the same interests are drawn together and given that that cyberspace has not barriers, we are able to get our message across the globe.

This makes the job of people involved in viral marketing and word of mouth much easier because you are not necessarily making money from them but getting referrals which helps in promoting your business.

As you can see, there is a startling difference between the traditional search engine and social networking. The first one uses keywords in the hopes that people who use a search engine will be able to find you. The second is a platform because members will not only see your profile but be able to click on a link to go to your site.

When members like what you have done to your webpage, they will most likely save it, store it and even share it with others so you are able to advertise your product or service without even paying for advertising.

But social networking is just one of the tools that are used these days by most businesses. They also rely on blogs, podcasts and RSS feeds to reach a larger audience. Although it does not reach a specific market, it makes social networking the ideal choice when promoting a product or service.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

Just to give you an idea, companies spent $525 million in 2007 using a social networking to advertise their products. Estimates show that this figure could increase up to $810 million by 2008 and this is done not by just signing up as a member. Some have used banner or display ads so this can be featured in other sites.

Some within the social networking site have established their own groups so they are able to share their knowledge and experience in their area of business. You can even create profiles with the purpose of sharing knowledge which are very similar to blogs that brings a real person in the forefront to add a more personal touch.

Which one should you use? Some people use one while others use both. To maximize the use banners and pop up ads, it is best to put it in more than one social network. As for those who will be creating groups, you must make sure there is time to update the information there. Ideally, this should be one using one or two social networks.

After all the work is done, you will now have to measure its effectiveness by counting how much money is coming in. Is this going according to your expectations? If it is, then you are on the right track but if things are not going as planned, then that means that there is room for improvement.

Social networking can indeed get your message across so people will become aware of your products and services. With so many sites to choose from, it won’t be hard for you to get sign up with one and then do the same with another. This can only be achieved of course by making a first time buyer a regular customer who will spread your business by word of mouth.

PostHeaderIcon Why do People Network Over a Network?

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about Social Networking. When you start sharing the fascinating Social Networking facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

People’s lives nowadays are focused on one thing, catching up to everyone else. Everything is fast paced when it comes to career, opportunities and relationships. People barely have the time to stop and look around them to assess what they have and what’s going on in the world. Because of this hyped up and fast paced way of life people are barely connected with the people that matter the most.

Some friends and family never really know what is going on with each other. There is a solution to all of this and it’s what they call social networking, the question is why do people network in a network?

There are a lot of reasons why and here’s a short list of the reasons why:

1. Know new people. Just about every social networking websites says meet new people and the fact of the matter is that it’s what it’s actually all about. Meeting new people over social networking websites is the primary objective of having social networks. It’s like speed dating, people meet people assess if they like them or not and add them in their network of friends. It’s a great way of finding out how small the world is.

How can you put a limit on learning more? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

2. Finding lost friends. If there’s a cheap way of finding a long lost friend it’s through social networking websites, it’s because people hate being left behind in all the techie stuff that they make their own network. One of the features that a lot of social networking websites have is the ?how are you connected? feature. It shows you the link that goes back to the person who introduced you to that person that you have on your network. Another feature is the ?friends you have in common? feature, this allows you to see who are the people you have in common in your network. And chances are if you have someone in common it’s easy to look for somebody else.

3. Chat away. If you got nothing better to do with your life, chat the day away. Forums or discussion boards on social networks are available for those people who have a lot to say but have nobody to talk to. I know it’s sad right?because of the power of freedom of speech everybody has the right audience to listen into what you got to say.

4. Be part of an interest group. One of the good things about social networking websites is that there’re always people who share what you like to do. Crazy as your hobby may sound there’s bound to be a few people doing what you do. Not so special anymore right? And all along you think that you’re weird because you like collecting stamps so you can lick them, but on second thought wouldn’t it be better to belong.

5. Blog. Blogging or weblogs are the current replacement of a journal. It’s a little space in cyberspace where you get to rant as much as you like, write poetry, curse at people, curse at the government, curse at the Idol judges, shares your thoughts on almost anything and everything under the sun.

6. Post your face in cyberspace. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a place where you can put all of those memories for people to envy? Indeed, social networking is a great way of showing off to your friends what you’ve accomplished and what other things you like to have.
