Social Networking Begins With You
Imagine the next time you join a discussion about Social Networking. When you start sharing the fascinating Social Networking facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.
People will make up a group and when it comes to social networking, this begins with you because you have to sign up first to become a member and then add people into your list.
This process is standard in most social networking sites. You usually have to give your first and last name, gender, age, religion, occupation and a few other things to create your profile. Once this is completed, you are now a member.
For you to have your own social network, you now have to invite your friends to join the site. In order to expand that, you can look at the featured members or see who else has similar interests.
Other members will also want to expand their network and if you want them to add you, one thing you should do is make your profile very interesting. Let people know what your hobbies are, what sports do you enjoy, what is your take on politics.
You can also feature your profile in the same manner that you might be able to add someone from that section.
Within a social networking site, you too can create your own small group. Aside from discussing in online forums, you can take it to the next level by organizing events where members get to meet and do all sorts of activities.
See how much you can learn about Social Networking when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.
Another way to start social networking is to create your own by downloading open source programs. There are a lot of them around that have similar features to that of MySpace and Facebook so you don’t have to spend a thing.
The challenging part will be to let people know that you have a social network so you should start by telling your friends and hopefully, they will spread the word around. You don’t stop there of course. Another way will be to put links to your site or advertise a bit by putting a few ads in other sites.
For your social networking site to survive you have to do what MySpace and YouTube does which is to generate revenue through advertising. You can post an ad so that members who want to promote their product or service will be able to get business or offer this to outsiders.
Advertising in a social networking site could earn you millions of dollars. You won’t make that money overnight but the longer you are operational, this will happen in the months and years to come.
You can also earn revenue by charging members for using blogs, discussion boards, forums and RSS feeds. This can be available to members free of charge for an introductory period. If they like it, then they have to pay for it.
Social networking sites grow because those who use it are not restricted by distance. This means that someone from Europe or Asia may become a member. The only problem will be if they cannot understand English which is why you should also make this understandable in other languages.
In summary, social networking begins with you and creating your own account or your own site are your only options. The key to getting noticed is by the millions of surfers on the web is by promoting yourself. While some individuals are happy using a popular site, others have bigger dreams by using this as a stepping stone.

Social Networking Can Help Your Business
The objective of social networking is to allow members who have the same interest to communicate with one another. With so many of them around, why not take advantage of it because this is a tool that can make promote your business.
Social networking sites are a gold mine because you get to promote your product without having to pay for advertising. Studies show that people who know you are more receptive to a familiar face rather than saying yes to someone they just met.
To get started, the first thing you have to do is become a member of a social network. There are hundreds of them around and once you sign up, you should create profile page which tells people out there who you are.
Since most social networking sites allow you to personalize your webpage, make use of it by putting your company logo, a picture of yourself and your company profile. To sell yourself, talk about your experiences of being in the business.
If the site has a section that allows you to post blogs and bulletins, maximize it by showing what products or services you currently have and maybe a preview of what is in store in the future.
For those who already have their own website, put a link through the social network so people who want to know more will be able to directly gain access to it.
Another thing you shouldn’t forget to do is visit other forums within the social network. This will enable you to find out what others are taking about. Who knows? It’s possible that another member has a problem and you are the answer to their prayers. It is also possible that the information from the forum will give you ideas so you can add new products.
Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:
Since you want your customers to become part your client base, it is important that maintain quality in your products and services. This will let others know about who you are and this will spread by word of mouth.
To add revenue to your business, you can allow other businesses to advertise in your webpage for a small fee.
The best way to get the most out of social networking sites is to advertise your products in more than just one. So you don’t waste your time, you should do research as to which ones are frequented by most people. If this is too general, try to look for a social network that specializes in whatever business or service you are offering.
From there, you build up your image and hope that in time, you will have a regular client base that will give you a steady flow of income every month.
Social networking can help your business and the best part is that it is free to join and there are no additional costs to maintain your membership.
Why is it free? Because companies who maintain these social networking sites know that it is counterproductive to charge fees from their members when they can get more money from companies who engage in online advertising in their sites.
As the entrepreneur, you should just have to put in the time and effort so you will get noticed. Just like other businesses, the use of social networking is not the backbone of your business but merely something that helps attract additional revenue.
Those who only know one or two facts about Social Networking can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

Utilizing Online Social Networking in Education
You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Social Networking in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.
There is still an ongoing debate on the direct benefits of making the use of social networking in education. Unfortunately for these online social networking sites, or SNS, their early reputation has long preceded their potentials. Facebook, Friendster and MySpace are just some examples of such sites which have created a stigma around themselves that technology per se does not deserve.
But with the lines blurring, it is interesting to know that a change is taking place, and it relates to what could be the productive role of online social networking in the lives of students.
Issue of safety and influence
Majority of the contents of online SNS are user generated. They are open to anyone who wishes to become a member. Because some users often post detailed and specific personal details (including addresses and phone numbers), compromising and unsuitable pictures, statements or other information, SNS are considered as a playground for online predators.
Students are getting in trouble with their school administrators for posting self incriminating and unacceptable pictures or information, which violate imposed school policies or code of conduct. School administrators, however, do not monitor the activities of their students in online social networking activities; but if their students’ online accounts that violate school policies are reported to them or are brought to their attention, then they may investigate the matter further.
Collaboration rather than conflict
Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.
The challenge in utilizing the potentials of SNS in the lives of students lies in how to integrate such sites with academic practice. Initially, as expected, academic institutions had refused to accept the influence of social networking activities in the lives of their students. However, it is without a doubt that despite of the downsides, the internet is a powerful educational tool ? a virtual school grounds where students can meet and chat, and bring learning to them without having to leave their homes.
Recently, the same school institutions had to see these SNS with a fresh eye. This technological socialization among students may just be a potentially effective partner in the education system. There should be an alliance, rather than a collision, between the online activities of students and academic goals. The challenge here is how to harness the promise of SNS and how to integrate it effectively with the traditional academic methods.
Of course it is not generally possible to directly incorporate SNS directly into the classrooms; such are tools primarily for socializing. But these tools have grown to a level so potentially useful among students that educators should not ignore its value. With optimism, this goal may be realized through the following:
* Paying attention and looking into social networking sites - School administrators must not express disproval of networking activities utterly without really understanding how it works. Exploring these sites will reveal what makes it popular among their students.
* Employing the educational worth of social networking activities - Educators may deliberately consider ways of extending classroom activities onto the internet. Online communities work by providing ways through which users interact. Deliberately thinking of projects and assignments to be executed by the students through SNS may make the most out of it.
Effectively diverting the influence of SNS to a more positive side will strengthen role of online technology to the students. The role of social networking in education may just be an integral part of the learning process of the students, and not merely a distraction.
That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

The fall of some social networking sites
In recent years online dating websites have evolved into a more friendly kind of website. Instead of looking for dates over the net people call it social networking, social networking websites work by adding to your friends list people who fit your criteria of being interesting. Some websites have people search engines that allow you to look for possible candidates by just choosing the kind of profile you want your new friend to have. These criteria can be narrowed down to age, sex, nationality, interests, major, sometimes even sexual preference. After you’ve found a handful of candidates you send them invites for them to approve your request to be their friends.
It’s been quite a hit for the children of the Information age, people can now expand their friends network without having to leave the comfort of their homes. On the other hand, with the success of social networking websites, some of the reasons for the failure of other social networking websites have been undermined and overlooked. Even though it a great hit to people, the reasons for others failure if not taken seriously could lead to the downfall of other top websites. Here’s a short list of the major reasons why some social networking websites fail.
1. Privacy. One of the most common downfalls of social networking sites is the lack of privacy of the members. Since all of the information of the member can be viewed by another user the security issue not only of its members but the website itself is regularly in jeopardy. Hackers will always be a threat to people on the internet and especially to people who proactively volunteer information that can be considered as confidential. This information when in the wrong hands can lead to serious backlashes. One example is identity theft; if someone was to intercept a meeting or important information that person could pose as the user.
2. Rewards and penalties. One of the most important things to consider when you are applying for membership to a certain group is the ?WIIFM? or ?What’s in it for me?? In certain cases when we look into the different groups that we could be part of we always take time to consider how it could benefit us. Benefit and reward are important to people because it gives then a sense of appreciation.
Appreciating that they took time to enroll themselves in a service or a product, when people are given due credit for what they do they feel they belong. On the other hand penalties should be imposed to people who have broken special privileges that they have. These two give any organization balance and direction, this reminds people that they are rewarded for what they do and reprimanded for the abuse that they commit.
Those of you not familiar with the latest on Social Networking now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.
3. Hidden privileges. It’s important to that we could have all the privileges and capacities of the network from day one.
4. It takes a while. The main reason that we join a social networking website is to stay connected with people we have little or no communication lines with, when a social networking site takes time to update the users profile or the site it’s frustrating because we want information real time.
5. Boxed worlds. Some people calls social networking sites as “walled gardens” and while others call it “isolated paradise.” Whatever you want to call it social networking websites lessens real interaction between people. Social networking sites were originally made to renew connections with people that we know and make new friends. It was not meant to be the only world that we spend our lives in.
People who have Facebook and MySpace accounts sometimes forget that the true essence of having a relationship.

What Do Social Networking Sites Have in Common
The number of social networking sites has increased rapidly and the vast majority is simply an off shoot of MySpace or Facebook. As a result, people don’t use it just to stay in touch with friends but to make new ones as long as they have the same interests, political views and activities.
As you can see, social networking sites cater to a diverse audience. This is why some specialize in business, religion, sex and a few other things. Each one allows you to post blogs, photos and videos. At the same time, your friends can post comments.
This begins by becoming a member. Each person has to fill up the form and answer a few questions. This normally includes what will be your username, age, gender, location, interests and an ?about me? section. You are not required but encouraged to upload a photo so people will be able to put a face to the name.
When it is finished, you get to choose the visibility of your profile. Can anyone see it or will this be limited only to your friends. The social networking site will ensure that your decision in this matter is respected.
Eventually your list of contacts will grow and this in essence is what social networking is all about. Some of those individuals are people you really know while the rest are acquaintances which could develop into something more in the future. You can leave messages when your contact is offline similar to webmail which many of us are already used to.
The more authentic information about Social Networking you know, the more likely people are to consider you a Social Networking expert. Read on for even more Social Networking facts that you can share.
But not social networking sites started this way. This just evolved later on and one good example is Classmates which was initially designed to help you find old colleagues from secondary school and college.
In order to compete with other social networking sites, developers have to come up with better features which the others don’t offer. Some examples of these include built-blogging, mobile interactions, RSS feeds, URL blocklist, application sharing, multiple language support, smarty templates, article rating, multiple authors and a lot more.
You just have to try each one to see if you are happy with their service. If you are not, then you can always close your account and open a new one somewhere else.
Despite all the fanfare, one thing that social networking sites are greatly concerned about is privacy primarily concerning the usage of the younger users. This is because they may be naïve enough to meet people on the net and sadly they become victims of a heinous crime. While most developers have taken steps to try and prevent this, the parents of those who use it need to do their share as well by monitoring how their kids use it and activating the security settings.
Social networking sites regardless of how big or small they are now have a lot in common. What distinguishes them is their target audience and what other features they may offer that will make you decide to sign up with them.
You can also read reviews or ask your friends about what social networking sites are they members of since you want to be in the same group. If you can’t decide, you can open several accounts and just take time to update and use them.

Six Popular Social Networking Sites
Social networking is now part of our culture. In fact, there are so many to choose from and those who decide to become a member of one are more likely to become a member of another. Just to give you an idea of what is around, here are six of some of the most popular social networking sites.
1. The first is called Facebook. As of July last year, it has the largest number of registered users among college focused sites with more than 34 million members worldwide. Although it is the seventh most visited site in the US, it ranks number one for photos. What makes this social networking site so special is that it generates revenues through advertising which according to some is a little over $1.5 million a week.
2. Next is MySpace which was founded in 2003. According to a study, this social networking site is the world’s sixth most popular English language website and the third most popular in the US. Similar to Facebook, members are able to post pictures, videos, blogs and music.
3. The third is YouTube which unlike the other two only focuses on the uploading, viewing and sharing of video clips. Established in 2005, members are able to upload videos for free and save those which they like in their account. If you want to save this in your computer, there are software programs you can use. The nice thing about this social networking site is that even unregistered users are also able to watch videos.
So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Social Networking. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.
4. The fourth site is Second Life which is an Internet based virtual world. What makes this so different from the other three is the fact that you are able to create a character and then interact with other members. By interacting with other members, you are able to participate in individual and group activities, create and trade items and services with one another again in a virtual setting.
To date, this social networking site has 8.9 million registered residents with a majority of them that happen to be inactive and some of them are owned by one person.
5. For business networking, one of the most popular ones around is Linkedin which has 12.5 million members. Established in 2003, this social networking site is designed to give registered users a way to maintain contact with people they know so those within the connection can use it to find business opportunities, find jobs and new contacts as well as review or recruit potential candidates.
6. One of the oldest social networking sites around is Classmates which has over 40 million members. Established in 1995, it is a great way to connect with old friends back from high school or college. After so many years, you and your friends have changed and now have successful careers which you can use should you decide to go into business together.
These are just a few of the hundreds of social networking sites around. What makes each of these so popular is the fact that members are able to use it for free and when used for business, they don’t have to pay for advertising. That is unless of course you will be utilizing pop up ads and banners. But the simplest way is to post links to your webpage so members who may need your products or services will get in touch with you or recommend you to someone who needs it.

Social Networking and Teens
Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Social Networking? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Social Networking.
Social networking sites are very popular among teens because this is gives them a sense of belonging. While many say that this is part of growing up, there are risks involved, which is why they should be cautions.
Since they are not kids anymore, they more or less know which information of themselves should be made public. It is okay to talk about their hobbies, their favorite band or sport but not post their phone number or address since someone might call them up or visit them at home.
They should only add friends that they know in real life like their classmates, teachers and family members.
So no one outside their friends will be able to read anything that they posted, it is best that this is set to private. Doing so will prevent people who are not in the friend’s list from viewing their blogs or photos.
Before you post it, make sure that this is tasteful and not sexually provocative. You can make alterations using some programs to remove any identifying information.
They also should not post any plans like where they will be on the weekend to avoid meeting someone who could be a potential threat.
When they open an account, they should use a screen name and not their real name. It is also advisable not to mention their real age or gender as some sites require it.
The best time to learn about Social Networking is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Social Networking experience while it’s still free.
The only way your teen can log into their account is to type in their username or email address and password. The password must never be shared to anyone even their friends.
Should they encounter any harassment or negative comments on their profile, it must be ignored and reported to the administrator.
The time may come that someone they meet online will want to meet them in person. It is probably okay to do so after knowing this person for some time and not after chatting with them only once.
When they do decide to meet, they should still exercise caution by telling someone where they are going and who they are meeting. They could even bring a friend along so they will feel safe. Should things go well without any incident, then there won’t be any problems. But should the uneventful take place, they should be report this to the police and to the administrator so the one responsible for this will be punished.
While some teens may think that they are not given any privacy, parents who decide to put the computer in an open area like the kitchen or family room are actually doing them a favor. This will let the parents know what sites they visit, what content they have downloaded and monitor their surfing habits.
When the teen is logged into a social networking site or simply hanging out with friends, it is important that they just be themselves. This means not being bullied or pressured to do something they don’t want to do or be something they aren’t which can only be achieved of course by knowing their limits.
They should also stop chatting with someone who asks about their physical features or what is their attitude toward sex because the individual who is asking just wants to have sex which is a classic case of manipulation and not true friendship.

Christian Social Networking Sites are the Better Influences for Kids
When you’re away from the computer and the kids take over, do you know what sites they go to in the Internet? For sure, one or two of these sites include MySpace, Friendster, or Facebook. People of all ages gather to these sites for so many reasons and so many purposes. These kids are exposed to so many things that could influence them. If you are a parent, you’d want the better influence so try introducing the kids to Christian social networking sites, so you can have some peace of mind.
What is social networking and how does it work?
If we’re speaking about online social networking, we are referring to these sites that host a venue or a website where a person can create his own page and get connected with others in a network. The social networking site allows the user to upload photos and videos. There is also a space for blogging so users can speak their mind about anything.
Anything you put in your profile or account can be tracked and seen by the people who are linked to you as a contact. You can also see their profile and the many activities they are doing online or off.
The concept of social networking online became a hit because people are naturally sociable. The best thing about the Internet is people can get connected with their relatives, buddies, long lost friends, colleagues, or classmates regardless of time zones and geographical borders. This virtual meeting place makes it possible to stay in touch with people who matter.
The other appeal of a social networking site is that it allows you to meet other people ? strangers, friend of your friend, distant relative, or maybe a schoolmate you never got to talk to before. Online you get the chance to know them more as you see all the things he does through photos or blogs. People end up being good friends, and others even become lovers.
How are these social networking sites different from the Christian sites?
Because so many people are registered to these popular social networking sites, you can never really tell whom you are getting networked with. The Internet has grown, with it sprung a new breed of criminal minds and people with malicious intents on others. These are the kind of people we all would like to block away.
Sites that are more centered on religion are better options for us all. While there are so many other religions, Christianity is the largest religion in the world ? thus, there are more sites targeted to Christians. Here are some reasons why these God-centered sites are better:
The best time to learn about Social Networking is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Social Networking experience while it’s still free.
* They are smaller in size compared to the most popular ones and therefore more specific on the profile of the users.
* Contents are tailored to the people’s sensitivity and needs
* Easier to navigate than the huge social networks
* No unpleasant topics about religion
* Interfaces are almost the same as the popular sites like MySpace and Facebook ? you’d think you’re in those sites!
* Safer and more youth-oriented
* Fellowship with others with the same religious beliefs
* Increase in faith as there are so many information shared about religion and values
Christian social networking sites are becoming popular and that is something every parent or guardian should be happy about. It may not be possible to watch over the kids 24 hours a day, but at least we know their spending some of their time online getting the better influences.
Of course, it’s impossible to put everything about Social Networking into just one article. But you can’t deny that you’ve just added to your understanding about Social Networking, and that’s time well spent.
